Lot Description

Breen Die State II. Condition Census standing for this rare, challenging Sheldon number. There is localized softness of strike along the upper reverse border, where the letters TES OF are faint, although moderate wear is evenly distributed on surfaces that retain plenty of bold detail in other areas. Lightly cleaned ages ago, but since retoned naturally and attractively in a blend of golden-brown and steel-olive. Numerous small marks are scattered about on both sides, two tiny digs at central obverse, one atop the other at the junction of Liberty's cheek and neck, serving as the most useful identifiers for provenance purposes. This coin is included in the 2000 Bland census, in which it is tied for CC#5 with an EAC grade of VF-20.
