Lot Description
1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. Heraldic Eagle. B-22, BB-104. Rarity-4. BB Die State IV. Pointed 9, Wide Date. AU-53 (PCGS). This variety is rare in high grades above AU-50. Toned over both sides with light to medium gray with deeper russet accents on the high points and a few scattered darker specks. Hints of blue in the fields as well are seen when examined under a light. The strike is average, enough to bring up all the devices but a few obverse stars lack their radial centers. Liberty's hair is sharply defined, and well preserved. Minor circulation marks are found with a loupe, but they blend in well with the patina. Apparently the fourth finest known behind the Eliasberg, Queller, and Miller coins. A variety that is scarcer than generally realized. PCGS# 40021. Provenance: From the Freedom Collection.
