Lot Description

The first of many overdate varieties in the Capped Bust series, and always popular as such. A later die state with extensive cracks and clash marks seen, the milling is weak in areas and the stars and letters drawn to the edges in spots. Traces of luster cling to the surfaces enlivening the pewter-sliver that mixes with deeper bluish-gray tones. Sharply struck overall with clean surfaces and a neat look. PCGS 27, NGC 8. The most recent example sold in February 2018 for $1,900 and we sold one for $1,550 hammer in our August 2017 Premier Session auction. The Collectors Universe Price Guide lists a value of $2,250.
