- Lot Description
- This key date CC-Mint half dollar is lightly and evenly worn, nicely defined overall, and free from any singularly distracting marks. Toning is deep and rich in a charcoal-russet hue that delivers a strong antique appearance. This reverse die is readily identified by a sharp raised die gouge behind the eagle's head above the eye, called a "cowlick" by Bill Bugert. Very scarce, and rarer than the 1873-CC Arrows, the 1874-CC is a heavily circulated issue with just 59,000 pieces produced. Most examples are heavily worn or plagued by surface problems, making this bold PCGS EF-40 example a desirable find.
