Lot Description
1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-66+ PL (PCGS). Brilliant apart from a few wisps of pale silvery tinting, this captivating Gem allows ready appreciation of a boldly cameoed finish from the dies. The fields are well mirrored and form a splendid backdrop to sharply defined, frosty textured design elements. As the premier San Francisco Mint issue in the Morgan series, the 1878-S is a perennial favorite among series specialists as well as more generalized silver dollar collectors. Although not as plentiful in an absolute sense as the 1879-S, 1880-S, 1881-S and 1882-S, the 1878-S is still readily obtainable in most Mint State grades. We stress that word "most" in this context for Prooflike coins are scarce in an absolute sense and exceedingly rare above the basal MS-65 level. Among the finest known to PCGS in the PL category, this premium Gem will make an outstanding addition to an advanced Morgan dollar set. PCGS Population: 2; 2 finer in this category (bot MS-68 PL). PCGS# 7083. NGC ID: 253R. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
