1871 Hawaii Plantation Token. Wailuku Plantation. 12 1/2 Cents. Medcalf-Russell 2TE-3. Broad Starfish. VF-35 (PCGS). 4.68 grams. Handsome reddish-brown patina with glints of bolder olive-charcoal in the protected areas around some of the design elements. The date and fraction on the reverse are a bit soft, yet all but the 2 denominator are discernible. All obverse features are well outlined and clear, the surfaces are smooth overall with plenty of gloss. Our multiple offerings in this sale notwithstanding, Wailuku tokens are scarce and seldom offered. On this variety the uppermost point of the starfish touches the lower right base of the H in HI, both letters repunched. PCGS# 412434. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
