1722-H French Colonies Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. W-11840. Fine-15. 65.9 grains. A dramatically underweight specimen. Mottled light and medium brown with some flecks of green. Microscopically granular but still relatively glossy. While soft at centers, particularly on the reverse, an impressive degree of detail is struck up on this thin planchet. Denticles are present from 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock on both sides, BENEDICTUM somewhat interrupted by rim. In terms of wear, this piece is likely fairly high grade in reality. A technically interesting and fairly attractive specimen. PCGS# 158629. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
