Lot Description

A distinct and readily attributable die pairing of the VERMONTENSIUM <em>Guide Book </em>variety, with the fourth tree from left floating atop the mountain, the last one in line at right actually not even on the mountain. Wear is uneven for this piece, heavier toward lower left obverse and in the opposing areas on the reverse, but features in other areas are quite sharp, especially the landscape scene and rising sun. The obverse is off center to 6 o'clock, lower border into the bottoms of the digits in a still-legible date; the reverse is off center to 1 o'clock with the border into the letters from 11 o'clock, clockwise around to 2 o'clock. The surfaces are toned in nice antique copper brown, both sides smooth for the grade with only a single old scratch near central reverse that is worthy of mention. Given the poor planchet stock and wretched surfaces that are typical of Landscape Vermonts, this Very Fine RR-6 presents exceptionally well and is worthy of strong bids.
