Lot Description

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-109a. Rarity-3. Pointed 9, Stem Not Through Claw. Fine-12 (PCGS). A heavy crack at the base of the date coupled with an equally heavy crack through star 12 identifies the late die state of Obverse 5 and, hence, the O-109a attribution for the 1806 Draped Bust half dollar. (Other uses of this obverse die are the early die state O-109, as well as O-125/O-125a, both of which do not show the aforementioned crack through star 12.) This handsome slate gray example is smooth, suitably bold and inviting at the Fine grade level.
