Bright, attractive, honey-olive and light rose-gold colors blanket both sides and provide pleasing eye appeal for the assigned grade. The design elements are bold to sharp and there are few sizable or otherwise singularly noticeable marks. Plenty of frosty luster remains to further tempt advanced gold collectors. This Crosslet 4 variety is far more elusive than its identically dated Plain 4 counterpart, accounting for only one of the nine die marriages confirmed for the 1834 Classic Head half eagle in Daryl J. Haynor's excellent reference United States Classic Gold Coins of 1834-1839 (2020). A separate listing in the Guide Book has increased the variety's recognition and the demand for examples. The offered coin, scarce at the certified AU-53 grade level, is visually appealing to attract serious bidder consideration.
