Losbeschreibung
1760 Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny. Zelinka 4-B, Nelson-2, W-13940. Rarity-3. "1700." AU-50. 109.9 grains. Frosty light brown with traces of luster on smooth medium brown surfaces. Extraordinarily well struck for the variety, miles sharper than the Ford AU, whose strike can only be describe as abysmal. Also better struck than the nice Norweb coin, which retained traces of mint color, the Zelinka-Taylor piece, the 2000 C4:36 piece, and the very high grade 2005 C4:107 coin. The McGrath specimen comes closest to this strike, but it too does not have as much central detail. The reverse shows some extremely fine granularity, as struck. No marks are seen on fields or edge. Obverse aligned to 10 o'clock, reverse to 7 o'clock, with full long rim cording plain from 1 o'clock to nearly 6 o'clock. A glorious example of this variety, finer even than the Nelson-Lasser-Colonial Williamburg coin, and a likely candidate for the sharpest ever sold. PCGS# 274. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
