- Handsome rose-gold surfaces are sharply struck with a remarkably smooth, lustrous and satiny texture. The reverse is rotated a few degrees clockwise from normal coin alignment - an interesting feature. The underrated 1858 gold dollar is scarcer in Mint State than the 1856 and 1857. It is also far rarer than the low mintage gold dollars from the 1880s, although this fact is not reflected in market prices. Gems such as this are seldom encountered, and hardly ever come with CAC approval confirming the originality and premium quality of the surfaces. This is the finest example of the issue that we have had the privilege of bringing to auction in 15 years, a find for the astute collector, and a simply beautiful Gem that would serve as a highlight in any collection.
