Losbeschreibung: Breen Die State III. Pleasing, if somewhat dusky olive-copper and sandy-brown surfaces reveal few blemishes during in-hand viewing. Scattered marks are evident, nonetheless, including shallow scuffs on Liberty's bust and the leaves at lower left within the wreath, and there is an old corrosion spot at 5 o'clock on the obverse. Close inspection with a loupe also reveals light surface build up around the peripheries on both sides, culminating in reddish scale on the reverse at the letters ST in STATES. Despite its minor drawbacks, this is a bold-looking example of a rare Sheldon NC number that ranks CC#10 in the Bland census and CC#9 in the Noyes census. A find for the advanced large cent enthusiast.
