1742-H Sou Marque. La Rochelle Mint. Vlack-98, var. EF-40 (PCGS). 31.0 grains. While Vlack (2004) observes that, "Genuine specimens [of the 1742-H] examined had no stops before and after the star different," this is a genuine example that does have these design elements. It is otherwise quite unlike the Vlack-358 contemporary counterfeit in detail and overall fabric. Boldly defined with traces of silvering, both sides are richly toned in blended olive-gold and steel-gray. A minor planchet bend at lower left reverse is as made. Provenance: From the Sydney F.
