Lot Description
1 graded PR-67+ CAM, 2 higher at PCGS. By 1907, the mint had made a return to the production of consistently beautiful cameo silver proofs, as exemplified by the sublime example offered here. Either side displays astonishing field-motif contrast that, under certain angles of lighting, looks like the devices were struck out of snow floating in deep, dark space. Obverse mirrors are a bit stronger than on the reverse. The shield is fully struck corner to corner, which is not necessarily a given even for proof strikings, and even the eagle's right (observed) talon, often seen with weaker definition, shows near-pinpoint sharpness. The fields are flawless with zero hairlines, with the only visual aberration being a few faint milk spots. Some of this same. vague milk spotting lands on Liberty's portrait and creates an intriguing "shift" in textural appearance.
