Breen Die State VIII. An overall sharply defined EF to represent this distinct and readily attributable Sheldon number. Underlying glossiness to the texture betrays an old, light cleaning, but both sides have largely retoned in olive-brown with vivid reddish-orange outlines to the design elements and, on the reverse, splashes of charcoal. Centering is good with denticulation absent only along the lower right reverse border, letter E in LIBERTY faint yet discernible. Scattered marks are noted, as is a small obverse spot at the hair curls below the ribbon ends. Although the Rarity-3 rating implies that S-128 is a "common" variety with an estimated population in the range of 200 to 600 pieces, this is only applicable for pieces in low grades. It is decidedly rare above the EAC VF level.
