1848 N-36 R5- PCGS graded MS63 Brown.Choice glossy light chocolate brown and steel with frosty luster covering the protected areas on both sides. Essentially flawless, but it is difficult to assign a higher grade due to the blunted details on the portrait caused by improper die preparation. Finding an identifying mark is a challenge; a tiny, very thin nick on the truncation above the first 8 will have to suffice for this purpose. LDS, die state b. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective thanks to a fresh die polishing that removed the earlier vertical die line under the first 8. A great example of this odd-looking die variety. Our grade is MS60, CC#1, the only mint state example known in the Grellman census. The attribution and Goodridge collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; none finer for the variety at PCGS.Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
