Lot Description
THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART IV While some 300 Proofs were struck for collectors in 1858, beginning the nearly annual tradition of the mint issuing Proofs for sale to the general public, these were mostly brilliant Proofs, struck without care for Cameo contrast. This is a VERY RARE GEM Cameo example. Bold and powerful mirrored reflection beams boldly all over. The fields are icy smooth and delightfully clean and brilliant with a deep clarity. The devices have a nice frost and the surfaces are of true GEM quality. The eye appeal is great. Only 300 Proofs were struck. PCGS 1, NGC 1. This GEM brought $7,200 in November 2018. There is a single PR66 CAM graded finer at NGC, a coin that last sold in 2011. This is a prize for the collector, do not let it get away. Cert. Number 2644117002 PCGS # 86412
