1831 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-107. Rarity-3. MS-66 (PCGS). OGH. A gorgeous example that is solidly graded at the upper reaches of Gem Mint State, the 1831 as an issue is a Capped Bust Half Dollar that is surprisingly difficult to locate this nice. Most Mint State survivors that we handle, in fact, are indifferently struck and/or possessed of inferior luster. Not so this piece. Both sides exhibit a bright, satiny texture that is as vibrant as the day the coin was struck, And speaking of strike, it is bold-to-sharp throughout with the focal devices in the centers essentially full. Overall smooth, the entire package is dressed in delicate silver-apricot iridescence that speaks volumes about the coin's originality. Among the finest known for both the issue as a whole and the individual die marriage, this delightful piece is sure to sell for a premium bid.
