- 1830 Capped Bust Dime. JR-3. Rarity-3. Medium 10 C. MS-64 (PCGS).
Frosty deep gray with excellent luster and attractive toning in shades of sea green and gold, richest at the peripheries. Nicely struck and very attractive, a few dull nicks on Liberty's bust line keep this from the Gem designation technically, but the visual appeal is superb. An excellent type coin, especially for those who enjoy attractive toning, this coin is also a find for the Capped Bust dime variety collector. David Quint believed it was CC#2 or CC#3 for the 1830 JR-3 dies as of January 2018.
Provenance: Acquired from David Quint, January 16, 2018. Earlier from our (American Numismatic Rarities') Old Colony Collection sale, December 2005, lot 491.
PCGS# 4516. NGC ID: 2379.
