Lot Description
Undated (ca. 1652-1674) St. Patrick Halfpenny. Martin 1-B, W-11540. Rarity-4. Large Letters. VF-30 (PCGS). 129.2 grains. A gorgeous example, about as picturesque a mid-grade St. Patrick halfpenny as one could hope for. Smooth, naturally glossy light brown surfaces are totally devoid of any distracting marks, spots, or flaws. Perfectly centered on both sides, the tops of some of the letters are off the planchet as always, but this is due to the dies just being too large for the planchets. Well balanced with equally strong definition on all of the design elements. The splasher is nicely shaped and beautifully colored, though slightly off its target placement. Overall fabulous quality and eye appeal, a coin deserving of a strong bid and then some. Provenance: From the Norman G. Peters Collection. PCGS# 46. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
