1858 Gold Dollar. MS-64 (PCGS). Satiny rose-orange surfaces are smooth enough to evoke thoughts of a full Gem rating. Fully struck and carefully preserved, this is a premium quality example of the underrated 1858 gold dollar. Scarcer in Mint State than the 1856 and 1857, the 1858 is also far rarer than the low mintage gold dollars from the 1880s, although this fact is not reflected in market prices.
