1967 Washington Quarter. SMS. MS-69 Cameo (NGC). In 1965, the US Mint took a hiatus from striking annual proof sets, and issued Special Mint Sets, coins that were struck on unpolished planchets by polished dies. These were not treated with the same care that proof coins were, and coins hit against each other prior to packaging. This is the finest example graded by NGC, the only MS-69 Cameo on their Census (there are 21 grading events at the MS-69 level without the Cameo designation). The fields have superlative watery reflective surfaces and the devices are all fully rendered by the dies. Well worth a strong bid from those who demand the highest grade examples.
