Losbeschreibung
118.1 grains. Handsome dark brown surfaces are mostly smooth and fully uniform in color. A couple of trivial scratches are seen under magnification, but no unsightly natural flaws. One tiny flan clip is noted over the effigy's head. A gentle bulge in the left obverse field, and clash marks at the lower right reverse speak to the later die state. A feature in the left reverse field is curiously not addressed by Clark. This seems to be on later state coins, including that plated in his reference at the bottom of page 468. On a weaker coin, this could likely be explained as spalling, but here, these artifacts have every appearance of being intentional, perhaps even engraver's doodles. They are distinct, in a bit of a pattern and simply do not look like random failures. These are also seen on the Taylor-Partrick coin, but that piece seems to have flowlines that have obscured the distinctive forms and symmetry seen in the artifact here. Nicely centered on the obverse and slightly left on the reverse.<p>
