Description du lot
1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 6-D, W-5050. Rarity-2. Double Coulter. EF-45 (PCGS). 136.4 grains. Glossy, dark coffee bean-brown surfaces exhibit a few stray circulation marks in obverse field areas and well hidden within shield lines at central reverse. Obverse generally well centered in strike, the reverse a trifling bit off center toward 3 o'clock. Struck from Siboni Die State 3 of both obverse and reverse, the obverse displaying the especially vivid meteor shower of die flaws through the plow handles, and the reverse die badly broken at shield point and crumbling within the shield lines. An attractive example of this die combination whose obverse displays a charming folk art style horse head. Provenance: From our sale of the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection, March 2017 Baltimore Auction, lot 222. Purchased privately from Money Mundus, October 22, 1982. PCGS# 509. NGC ID: 2B4P.
