- 1837 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. 50 CENTS. GR-22. Rarity-2. MS-63 (PCGS).
A predominantly brilliant example with wisps of enhancing golden-russet iridescence in the protected areas around many design elements. Lustrous surfaces have a satin to softly frosted texture that is impressively smooth for the assigned grade. Sharply struck in and around the centers, die fatigue explains the softness of detail around the peripheries. With the first year 1836 Reeded Edge a well known key date, Mint State type collectors would be wise to pursue this 1837.
PCGS# 6176. NGC ID: 24G4.
