Lot Description
1851-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 26-R. Repunched Date. EF-45 (PCGS). CAC. Attractive honey-olive patina throughout, this coin is lustrous for the grade with all but the central high points boldly to sharply defined. Despite a mintage of 62,710 pieces, the 1851-D numbers among the top 10 rarest half eagle issues from this Southern mint. The present example is finer than the typically offered VF or low end EF, and has the added interest of repunching to the first digit 1 in the date. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection. PCGS# 8248. NGC ID: 25U7. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
