- An outstanding premium Gem Proof with few peers and no betters in the BN category at both PCGS and NGC. The generally olive-copper surfaces reveal considerable underlying pinkish-orange mint color as the coin dips into direct lighting. The finish is intense on both sides, and there is modest contrast between lightly frosted devices and frosty to semi-reflective fields. The Proof mintage for this two-cent piece date is given as "725+" in the Guide Book, which mirrors the estimate provided by Rick Snow for the Proof 1866 Indian cent in his 2014 reference The Flying Eagle & Indian Cent Attribution Guide - both Proof minor coin issues were distributed in the same manner. The present beauty ranks among the finer extant for the two-cent issue, and so we wish you success if you pursue this attractive Gem.
