Losbeschreibung: Undated (Circa 1795) Washington North Wales Halfpenny. Baker-34A, W-11160. URS-5. Two Stars. Lettered Edge. AU-55 (PCGS). Deep golden brown with olive highlights. Pleasing for the grade with no marks of consequence present except some tiny riffs present in the planchet when struck. <strong>Rare;</strong> the lettered edge variety is seldom encountered in any grade much less choice AU as here. Graded by surface luster and other factors but not by sharpness; these evasion pieces were struck from purposefully weakened dies to give the impression of an old, well-accepted copper in the channels of commerce. The Ford holdings are now near-legendary, and it is always a treat when one of the rarities from that sale makes its way back into collecting channels.
