This breathtakingly beautiful Proof 1876 quarter eagle combines satiny devices with deeply mirrored fields, easily living up to its Deep Cameo designation by PCGS. The surfaces are silky smooth and virtually pristine. A full strike and deep, vivid reddish-gold color further enhance the appeal of this remarkable absolute and condition rarity.<p>Like its identically dated Proof gold dollar counterpart, the Proof 1876 quarter eagle has the highest mintage in its series from 1868 through 1880. Even so, survivors from the mintage of 45 Proofs are highly elusive and, per John W. Dannreuther (2018), number only 20 to 25 coins across the numismatic grading spectrum. The premium Gem offered here is one of the very finest seen by PCGS, and the single highest graded specimen to secure CAC approval. It is destined to serve as a highlight in an advanced collection of classic Proof gold coinage.
