Lot Description

1844-O Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 1-A. Repunched Date. MS-62 (NGC). Satin to modestly semi-reflective surfaces are lightly toned in iridescent champagne-apricot, with bolder rose and cobalt blue highlights in isolated peripheral areas. Both sides exhibit an impressively sharp strike for a New Orleans Mint quarter from the pre-Civil War era. Even in the finer circulated grades the 1844-O can be elusive, while Mint State survivors such as this are rare. Provenance: From the Steve Studer Collection. NGC Census: 5; 5 finer (MS-64 finest).
