Lot Description
Condition Census 1953-S Jefferson Nickel Tied for Finest Certified in PCGS MS-66 FS 1953-S Jefferson Nickel. MS-66 FS (PCGS). A true strike and condition rarity in a Jefferson nickel, this 1953-S was one of our consignor's final acquisitions for his outstanding set. It is a satiny, silky smooth premium Gem dusted with iridescent champagne-gold toning. The detail is truly impressive with sharp to full design elements both at the borders and in the centers. The 1953-S is even more challenging to collect in the finest grades than the 1953-D. Not only does it have a much lower mintage (19,210,900 vs. 59,878,600 pieces), but it is a more poorly produced issue overall with the vast majority of Mint State coins lacking Full Steps definition. A noteworthy departure from the norm, this remarkable example is also exceptionally well preserved and represents a fleeting find for advanced collectors. Provenance: From the George "Buddy" Byers Buckeye Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's FUN Signature Auction of January 2021, lot 4004. PCGS Population: just 2; 0 finer. PCGS# 84051. NGC ID: 22UR.
