- Lot Description
- Here is a very scarce Dahlonega mint gold dollar, among the scarcest produced at the facility. Displaying a typical strike for the date that shows weakness at the hair curls, the definition is quite bold elsewhere. Offering an original medium gold with green and rose accents, the surfaces are generally free of any visually imposing marks, just a few stray lines here and there. Only 6,583 were struck, and most seen are in AU grades, but most display a processed, commercial look. PCGS 9, NGC 4. Here is a clue to the scarcity of this date: the last PCGS coin sold back in 2004! Back then, that coin sold for $2,300. More recently, a PCGS XF45 sold for $2,350 and the current Collector's Universe price guide offers an estimate of $2,800 in AU50. We think, in light of how infrequently these appear on the market, a collector of southern branch mint gold, or gold dollar specialist will see what a great opportunity the presently offered coin presents. Good luck. Cert. Number 34096890 PCGS # 7523
