Lot Description
1828 Capped Bust Quarter. B-3. Rarity-5. 25/50C. VG-10 (PCGS). CAC. This is a classic two-tone silver quarter with deeper gunmetal-blue in the fields which offsets the lighter silver devices. Well struck and centered, with the fabulous die blunder on the reverse showing strongly with a loupe. The engraver blundered the denomination as the reverse was initially engraved as 50 C. then the error was caught and changed to 25 C--with all these digits showing. Furthermore, this reverse die was used twice, initially in 1822, then again in 1828 before being retired. One of the most famous and sought-after coins of this series that collectors have long coveted.
