Although the reported mintage for this modern Proof issue is 21,100 pieces, Roger W. Burdette asserts that the total number struck was likely in the range of 25,000 to 27,000 coins. As the author states in his 2016 reference <em>United States Proof Coins: 1936-1942</em>, "...data for rejected minor coins was not recorded in the Medal Department notebooks." This offering for a condition rarity Superb Gem will catch the eye of discerning collectors. Its bright and brilliant medium orange surfaces are free of both toning and grade-limiting blemishes.
