Mintage: 2350. A proof-only emission, the 1878 3-cent (like the proof-only 1877 and 1886) derives much value from those collectors who insist on having every possible date represented in their collections. A meticulous strike seems to live very close to perfection, and while not a cameo contender, the obverse does display fair device-to-field contrast.
