- 1866-S Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Motto. WB-102, Die Pair WB-2. Rarity-3. MS-64 (PCGS).
This example of the first appearance of the motto over the eagle on the reverse is bright silver with no signs of toning. A few small nicks are present in the fields, with a small cluster below the eagle's head, otherwise the surfaces show minimal disturbances. It is interesting to see the tail of a mispunched R below the R of TRUST on the ribbon. Well struck and scarce this nice. This will be a very nice addition to a type set showing the first year of the reverse design.
PCGS# 6320.
Provenance: From the Richard Jewell Collection.
PCGS Population: 6; 2 finer (Mint State-65 finest).
