- 1871 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-1054, Pollock-1189. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). 1871 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-1051, Pollock-1185. Rarity-6-. Proof-65 RD (PCGS). Copper. Plain Edge. Obverse with a head of Liberty similar to that on the Three Cent nickel pieces, surrounded by legend with date below. Reverse with a thick, open wreath of laurel with berries, tied with ribbon at base, with 5 CENTS within. Dark chocolate brown with satin smooth texture throughout. One meandering lintmark in the field below Liberty's chin, a tell tale thread left behind after the dies were carefully wiped by the coiner.
