Lot Description

The 1897-S is a lower mintage Barber quarter issue, with only 542,229 struck and is considered a semi-key issue. The present coin is a lovely AU58 with a rich, original old collector style patina. Well struck, there is just a touch of high point friction, barely perceptible, even when using a strong loupe. The eye appeal is very nice and would fit in any quality set. PCGS 8, NGC 5. None have sold in auction. A PCGS AU55 sold in January 2014 for $1,645 and an NGC AU58+ sold for $1,998 in January 2015.
