Lot Description

The last time this coin sold, about 14 years ago, it was tied for FINEST graded. Since then, the Population grew and it is now bested by just a dozen pieces. Thickly frosted luster blooms vividly across a broad stretch of the obverse with just a touch of deep gold tone at the rim. The reverse is more deeply toned with dark russet and forest-green hues. Sharply struck and very eye appealing this GEM shows just a single tiny reeding mark on the cheek, which is what we think held it back from CAC. PCGS 58, NGC 4. This example last sold in the 2006 Central States sale, realizing nearly $3,000. Today, PCGS lists the value at $1,750. Just 12 are graded finer. A great coin worthy of a strong bid. Good luck. Cert.
