Lot Description

A pleasing 1796 quarter at the assigned grade level, both sides deliver originally toned pewter and deep golden-gray surfaces. The obverse also with a partially denticulated border at bottom shielding a sharp date, Liberty's portrait fairly well outlined, stars and letters in LIBERTY range from discernible to absent. Portions of the reverse design are smooth, but most features on that side are still discernible. First of the United States Mint's regular issue quarters, and the only one of the Draped Bust, Small Eagle design, the 1796 is a strong performer throughout the numismatic grading scale.
