Lot Description: 1885 Gold Dollar. Proof-64 Deep Cameo (PCGS). Exceptional contrast and beauty for this scarce proof gold dollar, with a mintage of 1,105 pieces it is noteworthy that PCGS has awarded their Deep Cameo contrast to just six examples, these likely the initial coins struck when the dies retained their greatest frost and most perfectly polished mirror fields, both elements required to produce this level of cameo contrast. Furthermore, the fields and devices are free of all but minor signs of handling. Trace lintmarks are present at the center of the reverse, and the diagnostic clashing from the ER of LIBERTY is seen at the base of the 5. Bold visual appeal and impressive contrast for this issue.
