Lot Description
Tied for FINEST GRADED! Like other 1931-S issues, the mintages were lower, due to the lack of economic need in the depths of the Great Depression. Only 1.2 million were struck and is extremely rare in such a lofty grade. Satiny luster blooms in the fields and devices. The strike is bold. There are a few light traces of contact. Pretty gold toning blends with some pale iridescent pastel hues. There is a natural planchet flake on the reverse at 3:00 that we note just for the sake of full disclosure. The eye appeal is totally original and pleasing. PCGS 11, NGC 2. The last one to sell brought $16,800 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $23,500. Prior to that one, the last non-CAC coin sold for $21,738 in October 2016. If you are working on a top ranking Buffalo nickel set, don't let this one get away. Cert. Number 36638689 PCGS # 3971
