Tompkins Die Stage 2/2. Superior quality for this die pairing, and a lovely near-Mint State Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle half dollar. Surfaces are highly lustrous, frosty, and reveal semi-reflective qualities in the fields as the coin rotates under a light. Faintly toned overall in champagne-gold, wisps of slightly warmer pinkish-apricot iridescence engage many of the design elements to provide additional eye appeal. Minor softness is confined to a few peripheral areas, but in general the strike is sharp and most features remain crisp in the absence of all but trivial friction. Tied for CC#3 for the 1805 Overton-111 dies based on both the Tompkins (2015) and Herrman (Autumn 2025) listings, this highly significant condition rarity will see spirited bidding from early half dollar variety enthusiasts as well as advanced type collectors.
