1866-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. Motto. EF-40 (NGC). Bright honey-gold surfaces with ample luster to both sides and the central reverse retaining particularly sharp detail. Readily obtainable in most circulated grades thanks to repatriations of survivors from foreign bank hoards, the 1866-S is also popular with collectors as the premier San Francisco Mint double eagle of the Type II design.
