Lot Description
1722 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 3.2-Bb.3, W-12690. Rarity-4. First Type, Harp at Left. MS-64 BN (PCGS). CAC. Frosty chestnut-brown surfaces gleam with soft underlying luster and robust eye appeal. No marks of any measure can be found with the unaided eye. The obverse was struck from a heavily rusted die, with evidence of same throughout the devices and George's portrait. Both sides exhibit some central striking weakness, not at all unusual for the type. Reverse die crack from dentils above second 2 to base of rock immediately adjacent. Among the six finest grading events for the type listed at PCGS, please see below. An absolutely choice representative example of the type and grade combination.
