A handsome piece with rich charcoal-gray patina throughout the reverse and around the obverse periphery, yielding to lighter antique golden-gray toward the center on the latter side. The strike is off center to 9 o'clock on the obverse, left border trough the letters MA, reverse off center to 3 o'clock with the peripheral letters at right largely beyond the flan. A wavy planchet has resulted in uneven wear, further explaining the softness at left and lower right obverse, around the tree's trunk, and at right reverse. The sharpest detail remains on the reverse, on which side the date, denomination and letters IN NEW ENG and ANO are more or less bold. For the obverse we note sharp letters TS at the lower left border and plenty of detail within the tree's branches. The surfaces are lightly granular, central reverse with evidence of an old, light cleaning to remove build up, with numerous small marks also discernible on that side when examined under magnification. Presenting quite nicely during in-hand viewing, nonetheless, this is a respectable Oak Tree sixpence for inclusion in a colonial era type set.
