- Obv: The same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue Liberty Seated half dollars in 1863. Rev: Similar to the regular issue Liberty Seated design of the year, but with the addition of the motto GOD OUR TRUST in the field above the eagle. A boldly cameoed finish shines forth powerfully through a dusting of light iridescent gold toning. Fully struck. The uspatterns.com website reports that seven pattern Proof sets that included this type are believed to be original strikings, but with about two dozen examples of Judd-340 extant, many specimens in numismatic hands are likely restrikes. This is a popular type with collectors, both then and now, as a forerunner to the With Motto Liberty Seated design type adopted for regular issue coinage in 1866.
