Lot Description
An unsurpassable, nearly unrivalled example for the discerning Walking Liberty half dollar enthusiast. The strike is remarkable for the type with fullness of detail even extending into the centers. On the obverse Liberty's left hand is full, as are the details of the branch stem and portions of the American flag the she is holding, while on the reverse every feather at the junction of the eagle's breast and trailing leg is crisp. Full satin luster is joined by lovely peripheral toning in golden-russet and powder blue iridescence to deliver outstanding eye appeal.<p>The underrated 1936-S is one of the scarcest issues in the middle (read: 1934 to 1940) portion of the Walking Liberty half dollar series. In fact, only the 1934-S, 1934-D and 1935-S are rarer in terms of total number of Mint State coins known. This stunning Superb Gem is an incredible condition rarity that is tied for finest seen by both PCGS and CAC. Breathtakingly beautiful, and eagerly awaiting inclusion in a top-ranked Walking Liberty half dollar set on the PCGS Registry.
