BD Die State e/b. BD-6 vies with BD-2 as the most readily obtainable of the first six die varieties of the 1799 eagle, although we stress that all are scarce to rare. As one of no more than 45 examples believed extant for the attribution, this more affordable AU coin will appeal to both advanced type collectors and early gold enthusiasts. Bight honey-gold surfaces with enhancing reddish-rose iridescence, both sides show faint hairlines and some glossiness from a cleaning, but are free of sizeable marks. Well centered in strike with bold to sharp detail overall.
